Baseball is like Final Fantasy
It's October. Means two things. My birthday is this month, and its Baseball Playoffs. It also means that no one is watching Hockey, so that kind of sucks, because it is the best sport ever. So while expressing my utter dislike for baseball today while it was on, I came to one crazy realization:
Baseball is like Final Fantasy
Well, thats not exactly true, its just very much like turn based games, FF just happened to pop into my head, it being the largest franchise. I dislike both baseball and turn based combat so they just fit so well to gether. Lets break it down shall we...
The pace is very slow. The pitcher gets a break after each pitch, or turn, to think about what he is going to do next time and the better has the opertunity to counter. A strike would be a hit, for the pitcher, and a ball is like a missed attack. Three hits and the batter is defeated. and thats just turnbased in half an inning. the whole game is really like nine turns to defeat your enemy, with smaller conflicts going on under neath that.
I feel like you could make a customizable card game (CCG to the cool kids) with that framework. Wizards of the Coast shold be on that already.
On the opposite side, I said that Hockey was very much like Zelda, or any action RPG. Where you have to think quicker on your feet and the puck/game is constantly in motion. There's no stopping to determine what attack to do. You just do it. Besides, i rather enjoy linking my favorite gaming franchise with my favorite sport.
